At the conclusion of the curriculum requirements, graduates will be able to use clinical judgement in professional practice, function as an advocate for patient-centered care to diverse populations, communicate effective with patients, families, and the healthcare team, and practice nursing within the established legal-ethical framework.
Other costs include textbooks, fees, nursing supplies, HESI exam, CPR certification, immunization, physical exam, background check, and insurance. The instruction will include theory and clinical experiences that will prepare students for success on the licensure exam.
The comprehensive curriculum leads to an Associate in Applied Science degree for successful students. New students are admitted to the program in the fall and spring of each year.
Only a limited number of applicants are admitted with each cycle. Licensed Vocational Nurses who hold valid licenses and are in good standing may apply for advanced placement providing they meet the special requirements. Austin Community College can help. Our three course refresher series for RN's and LVN's will provide you with the necessary skills and system reviews required by the Texas Board of Nursing for successful reinstatement of a Texas nursing license.
Successful reinstatement of your Nursing Licensure requires a comprehensive review of both nursing knowledge and nursing skills. Students of this course will receive a total of hours of review in their nursing knowledge.
We also offer a two-day Nursing Skills Review, which is taught on campus. The last component of the Nursing Refresher requirements is a total of 80 hours of clinical practice. ACC cannot guarantee placement in a clinical setting, however we will present many available options to assist you in this final requirement. Our Nurse Re-Entry Update is the online didactic review portion of the program.
It is a semester-long course and includes a total of hours of study. Your review will take place through online discussion, self-paced assignments, and tests to review the knowledge you've gained. The topics reviewed in this course come from the recommendations by the Texas Board of Nursing, and include:. Students are required to have a total of 80 hours of supervised clinical practice to complete the course. This may be accomplished in a variety of settings as long as there are "patients" to work with and a qualified nurse to provide the necessary supervision.
It is important to note that these clinical hours must be completed within one year of starting the Nurse Re-Entry Update program. While ACC's Continuing Education cannot guarantee an in-facility clinical placement at this time, there are various options to help you meet your 80 hour requirement.

Students will work with virtual, interactive patients, amongst all ages and medical conditions, to perform various health assessments all while receiving immediate feedback. This enables students to use critical thinking skills as well as implement potential interventions all within a safe, unhurried environment.
For those registered through ACC, the record keeping system at Austin Community College is designed to generate grades and certificates within a week of completion date as published in the schedule. For Virtual College of Texas VCT students grades are sent to the college with which they registered upon completion of the course and that college generates their certificate of satisfactory completion.
